Loss adjusters for the policyholder
Claim Experts advise ALARM members
Claim Experts Chairman, Richard Hanson-James spoke to the ALARM (Association of Local Authority Risk Managers) South East group at their Insurance Day in London in January.
He explained why the insurers’ stance on claims is hardening, what the symptoms are, what the typical areas of dispute are and gave advice on how to handle the claims.
He stressed the importance of keeping lines of communication open at all times, of centralising decisions and information (preferably with one person taking a full-time role to manage the claim). He added that authorities needed to mimic commercial culture on claims and to never forget that the insurers’ adjusters, whilst almost always professional and fair, are not on the policyholders’ side.
Richard said “As Bronze sponsors of ALARM, and Chartered Loss Adjusters dedicated to the management of policyholders claims, we are committed to helping local authority risk managers with their insurance claims”
