Mike Nelson-Smith

My role

Based in the West Midlands, I share control of operations and work in the central region with my co-director, John Carpenter. This location enables us to help in other regions, especially to the north.

Experience

I have been a chartered loss adjuster for over 30 years, working in a major UK practice with manager and local director roles in London, Kent and the Midlands.  My experience includes a wide variety of commercial and domestic claims of all types, including business interruption and multi-million pound fires and catastrophes. I have also been lucky enough to handle work in the private marine industry, thus indulging one of my hobbies. I made the switch to policyholder work about two years ago and joined Claim Experts Ltd.

Other industry activities

I have been involved in many professional institute activities, having been chairman of the young members’ committee for CILA in London and having held various offices in local CII affairs, including the presidency of Birmingham Institute.

Outside the office

Golf and sailing occupy what little time is left after the demands of my family; three teenage daughters take a lot of managing!
